Ken Burns who created the iconic Civil War Documentary for PBS also created another documentary on America's National Parks. He called them the "Best Idea America Ever Had".
In the Summer of 2017, Mr. Frankmann worked as a Teacher Ranger Teacher in the Cuyahoga Valley National Park right here at home. His assignment was to develop new lessons for the Teaching with Historic Places program centered on the Ohio and Erie Canal which ran through and whose towpath is what connects everything in the Park from the Canal Visitor's Center in Valley View to the Beaver Marsh down in Bath. The lesson was about the Canal Town of Peninsula during the Civil War and featured two men from the town who each served in the 115th Ohio Volunteer Infantry. One was an officer and a Republican. The other was a sergeant and a Democrat. The key question was to determine how each might have voted in the election of 1864- along with the family members they wrote home to regularly.
